Outdoor LED Screen Weatherproofing Checklist

Modules and cabinets

• Modules are rated for outdoor use, with the IP rating of the front and rear checked on the datasheet
• Cabinet rated for outdoor use, with door and module gaskets in place and not damaged
• All module screws or locks fully tightened so gaskets seal evenly
• Gaps between cabinets sealed as per the cabinet maker's method
• Top of the screen covered by a flashing or rain cap where required

Cable entries and connections

• Every cable enters through a correctly sized waterproof gland
• Unused gland holes closed with blanking plugs
• Cables enter from below with a drip loop, so water runs off before the gland
• Outdoor-rated connectors used for power and data between cabinets
• Joints outside cabinets protected in waterproof junction boxes

Drainage, heat and ventilation

• Drain holes at the bottom of cabinets open and not blocked by the structure
• Ventilation fans and filters working and clean
• Hot air has a path out, especially for screens mounted against walls
• Structure painted or galvanised, and rust spots treated

Lightning and surge

• Structure earthed, with lightning protection considered for tall or exposed screens
• Surge protection device fitted on the mains supply
• Surge protection considered on long outdoor data cable runs

Pre-monsoon check

• Gaskets, glands and seals inspected for cracks or shrinkage
• Signs of water inside cabinets checked: rust, white marks, damp
• Loose modules or screws tightened
• Spare modules and power supplies of the same batch kept in stock
